I am a health freak, I work out five to six times a week, I have a six-pack on a good day, and I completely took my health for granted. But I was wrong. In early March, reports of novel transmission of the coronavirus were just starting to appear in the United States. It was a precarious situation, but community transmission of the virus was not quite so widespread. Looking back, there were too many opportunities for me to have caught this virus.
I did not take my health seriously. I figured I could avoid the virus, but in the off-chance I were to get it, it would be like a mild flu or a bad cold. I flew home from a two-month global medicine elective in Africa, ventured on long flights home and around lots of people at Nairobi and JFK airport.
I went to a beach party during my week stay in Florida and saw lots of friends before heading back to Indiana to finish up my last semester of medical school. I was not careful. I did not take the necessary precautions. I did not think it could happen to me. A day after arriving in Indiana, symptoms started to kick in. On Thursday, March 12, I woke up with fever, chills, fatigue, generalized muscle aches, and joint pain. Probably just a bad case of the flu, right? No cough, no shortness of breath, no difficulty breathing, no respiratory problems whatsoever.
No nausea, no diarrhea. JUST Fever and chills. I was almost turned away because of my symptoms, but I fought to be seen. My oral temperature was degrees Fahrenheit, and I was put in an isolation room for my appointment. My symptoms, however, only continued to worsen. The fever was unrelenting. If you are totally unvaccinated to all strains and catch omicron can it give you any natural immunity against the Delta strain?
If so How effective would that be? I eventually changed to an N99 then to an N I wore it in stores at work and at gas stations. I waited patiently for news of a vaccine, trying to never let my guard down. You could not see a single Chinese person NOT wearing a mask. Anything one could do to limit the amount of Viral Load the amount of virus particles one is exposed to on a daily basis would be of benefit to one.
Add to that. Masks do help a lot. Germs and viruses exploit the social activity of human beings. Animals can also be infected with corona viruses as well. If a person is exposed to another with Covid, gets PCR or antigen tests, positive but minimal symptoms.
Wants monoclonal antibody injections. How does that person know if the virus is Delta or Omicron? Question is how do you know which variant you have? People in China have been wearing masks for a long time because they have a ton of pollution, they cook and eat animals right off the street, they have unsanitary ways of doing some things.
Masks do help with illnesses, people in the US seem to not believe what is happening, blows my mind. Thank you very much for your information. People who are looking for protection against Corona, your information is very helpful. If you have comments or questions not related to the current discussions, please direct them to Ask NIH.
