One copy of Windows is tied to your computer and is customized for the OEM. OEM Software may not be transferred to another computer period. I'm not sure I completely understand your response.
Then again I am just a Red Wing simpleton! My computer is currently functioning ok. Over the past 2 years I have installed and uninstalled software and hardware and my PC has some issues. Probably driver clashes etc So I am prepared to rebuild from a clean OS install, even to the point of reformatting the hard drive. I am familiar with this procedure as I have done it many times with other PC's. Does a "system recovery" reset my PC to factory default configuration?
Is that essentially the same as reinstalling my OS? If so, that may do the trick. However, when I did a search on "System Recovery" in the "help and support center" on my PC, it states that to run a system recovery, I will need to have the "operating system installation CD" - which is the very thing I don't have.
However, the sticker on the side of my PC ends with xxxxT. I find that interesting. I apologize for the confusion for which I have presented to you in my posting.
A System Recovery restores your tower to the factory defaults from which you first opened it. The Operating System is part of the factory image, and does not need a product key entered a majority of the time to complete installation. I have to run so when SFC finishes and fails to fix your problem, which is likely, since if isn't that handy, do a drive search for spoolsv. Then run Services. That should restore the printers to functionability.
If not report back and I or someone else will take you further on this. Shadowmeph ,. Also check your running services to confirm or start the Remote Procedure Call service. It should be set to Automatic. It's looking like your system may have extended damage due to the cleansing of the virus and may require you to do a Repair Reinstall. PeteC ,. I have had this system since June and of course I did a terrible job of trying to keep the media that came with it and I have also purchased a couple of other systems and just through all the reinstall media together in a box and may have even misplaced some it.
I did already do the reinstall using this red media but no Windows Media Center application shows up as part of my system. If I need to request a new media, could someone help me make sure I request the right one. Some additional information. I did request reinstall media from Dell based on my Service Tag and order number but still would like to get this working sooner rather then having to wait. What reinstallation CD should I be looking for?
